The CHOOSE TO LEARN programme is a combination of the Study 500 software, the NOKIA N810 devices, the Study Mobile software module and the support of SANAKO. When looking at these products in isolation it should always be considered that they are used in combination in order for you to achieve your learning objectives. The three products listed in this section combine to form our CHOOSE TO LEARN solution.
The following provides you with an insight into how you can use the product within a teaching environment.Students login to the lesson and give their name as shown to the left.The whole process of switching on an N810 to joining the class will take much less than 60 seconds - a truly portable solution. The student name then automatically appears on the Tutor screen under the N810 icon for that position as shown to the right.STUDENTS LOGIN TO THE LESSONThe students will be automatically placed into a current session and those resources made available by the teacher via the Tutor Interface are presented as hyperlinks for immediate use by the students in that lesson. If a teacher moves a student to another session then the files presented can also change i.e. differentiated learning.Once a student opens a file or link then they have full control over how they approach the learning situation that they find themselves in. However, there are several tools for support and guidance as decribed below.PRESENT STUDENTS WITH THEIR WORKFocus student attention to the learning task at hand. At any time the teacher can choose to lock one, some or all of the student devices and the image to the right is displayed on the N810 devices. This is a simple yet powerful tool in the armoury of any teacher. Once the teacher is ready to continue then the lock can be removed and the students are free to carry on.FOCUS STUDENT ATTENTION MAKE SURE THAT YOUR STUDENTS ARE FOLLOWINGDuring the lesson, students can (if requested by the teacher) provide live discrete feedback stating whether they are following, confused or lost. This is indicated by a colour-coded exclamation mark on the teacher screen for that position and an overall percentage graph is displayed to the tutor as well. This provides the teacher with an indication of how students are progressing and helps to avoid the situation where students become part of their own world and perhaps feel lost or detached from the learning process.MONITOR ALL YOUR STUDENT SCREENS AND RESPOND TO INDIVIDUAL REQUESTS FOR HELPSimply double-click on a student thumbnail to see what that student is working on in full screen detail.If a student selects to CALL for attention then a '?' icon appears above that student position on the teacher screen. The tutor can choose to view the student screen as a thumbnail (as shown to the left) or in full screen. The student has no idea that the teacher is monitoring their screen until you choose to make them aware of this fact. The tutor can then take remote control of that student position to help and guide them as appropriate.SEND MESSAGES TO YOUR STUDENTSHAND OUT AND THEN COLLECT WORK BACKOne of the most powerful and useful features of the Study Mobile solution is the ability of the teacher to hand out work to the students and then collect work back from them in a simple to use and efficient manner. This makes it possible for the teacher to handout and collect home work, provide worksheets for say field trips etc....VOTINGThe teacher can ask students to provide a voting response to questions such as shown below. The student responses are then displayed to the Tutor in a simple graphical manner.
